I have given into the smoothie bowl craze. I am completely obsessed with these bowls of sweet fruity goodness. I think I’ve had one for breakfast everyday this week. I feel as if I’m eating soft serve ice cream for breakfast, but I’m not, and it’s healthy. They’re also insanely easy to prepare, and you can make them pretty. I prefer the berry flavours with a Greek yogurt base (makes it a thicker consistency like ice cream). I like to top it off with sliced bananas, almond slivers, and a blend of chia, hemp, and flax seeds. Seriously, so good! Don’t fight it, just give into the trend!
Sometimes, life gets to be a little too much, but it’s hard to take that day off when you know you need to get things done. I was having a conversation with a coworker the other day about how exhausting it is trying to balance everything from school to work to a social life. It’s so easy to forget to make time for yourself, but often times that’s all you really need. That alone time to recharge and rejuvenate is so crucial to your well being, and can make all the difference in the way you approach all your tasks.
I decided to take Sunday off, and I mean this in the truest possible sense of the phrase. I had originally planned to study all day, but I figured my brain needed a break. I did nothing work or school related. Instead, I did 3 things this Sunday that I hadn’t done in a long time.
My favourite meal these days have been vegan bowls because they’re so easy to prepare and very portable. As a student, I’m always on the go, and I often find it hard to find nutritious food options close to my classes. Vegan bowls are perfect for those days that I just don’t seem to have enough time to go home and cook myself an intricate meal. I often just throw all the ingredients onto a grill or steamer, and into a tupperware bowl (glass or ceramic, of course). Voila! All my lunch problems have been solved! My favourite vegan bowl combo at the moment is whole wheat pasta, sweet potato, sundried tomato, tofu, zucchini, and parsley. I start by cooking my whole wheat spaghetti noodles. Then I grill the sweet potato, zucchini, and tofu. I throw all the ingredients into a bowl, and generously drizzle olive oil and lemon on top. It takes about 15 minutes altogether!
I always feel sluggish on Monday mornings, and getting out of bed is no easy feat. My favourite way to get my Monday morning going is by drinking a nice tall glass of green smoothie. The Green Smoothies book by Fern Green is my ultimate go to for smoothie recipes. I often mix recipes together to fit my liking or my nutritional needs. This morning, I decided to mix together “Alkaliner,” and “Peachy.” This smoothie combo is full of vitamins A, C, and K. It’s sure to get your body going, and keep you energized all morning!
Last August, I had the exciting experience of falling head over heals in love with the city of Barcelona. In a matter of two days, I was completely done for. The city had stolen my heart, and there was no going back. Nothing else would ever compare in my eyes.
My mother and I stayed in a charming little hotel in the Gothic Quarters. What I absolutely loved about staying in the Gothic quarters was that everything was a couple of steps away. We were surrounded by tiny little boutiques, restaurants, and stunning late 19th century architecture. Our days consisted of trying whatever restaurant was nearby, walking through the little shops, and then going to whatever landmark we felt like seeing that day or just laying on the beach.
My favourite part about this trip was the food. Every restaurant we went to was amazing, whether it be for breakfast, lunch or dinner. My mouth waters when I think about the tapas and the seafood paella I consumed on this trip. We would pair each meal with sangria or a mojito, and finish it off with gelato or Crema Catalana. This is what all my dreams are made of!
It was truly an experience of a lifetime, one that I will never forget. It’s on my bucket list to return to Barcelona for a longer period of time, and explore more of the city. I long for more days spent laying on the beach, letting the sunshine tan my skin, all while consuming a refreshing mojito.
Last week was chock-full of exploration, and trying new things. From new lunch spots to new books, I’ve definitely discovered some fresh favourites. Here is my list of things that I have fallen in love with in the past week.
I am absolutely head over heals in love with Whiskey Words & a Shovel II by R.H. Sin. It is a stunning book of poetry about life, love, loss, and leaving. Sin’s writing is raw and honest. After reading every poem in the book, I feel like I’ve just read someone’s diary and I’ve become a better person because of it. There are poems in the book that resonated with me more than others, and “Good Vibes Only” really struck a chord with me.
Let’s Dance to Joy Division – The Wombats
I rediscovered this song while going through videos I had saved from Bestival last month. It is such a catchy song that I have had it stuck in my head the entire week. I’m definitely down to dance to The Wombats any day!

This is a brand new remix to the song by Foals. It has such a great vibe to it. The song manages to be upbeat while having an ambient charm to it. This is something that I would love to listen to on a summer night. Pure bliss!
I’ve been craving pizza a lot lately, so naturally I indulged in my cravings. I decided to try out a place I’ve never been to and I really enjoyed it. If you are in Toronto and looking to get some bomb tasting pizza, definitely try out Sud Forno if you haven’t already. They even have a cute patio!
Rompers! It has been insanely hot in Toronto lately, so lightweight rompers have been my best friend. They just make getting dressed so easy because all you have to do is throw it on and voila! you’re dressed. The romper I am wearing in the photos is from H&M.
